As Women of Aviation Week comes to a close, we’re sharing our final feature highlighting the inspiring women of Custom Helicopters. Today, we hear from Anna, our Safety & Quality Manager.
“Finding your place in aviation is rarely a straight line. For many of us, especially women, the journey is shaped by choices that don’t come with a map. Aviation is demanding. It requires precision, focus, resilience, and a willingness to adapt. But so does raising a family. So does being a partner.
For women in aviation, the challenge is not just professional—it is deeply personal. We are balancing ambition with presence, career with family, and personal growth.
One of the most persistent myths in aviation is the idea that you must choose: family or career, motherhood or leadership, presence or ambition. But the truth is far more nuanced.
Women do not need to choose between being mothers and being aviation professionals. We can do BOTH! We’re proving this every single day by our commitment and passion!
This year, I had the privilege of speaking at the 2026 Manitoba Aviation Conference on a topic that sits at the heart of these realities: how we develop and retain aviation specialists in a world where the path is not always clear—and where we often walk it carrying more than one role at a time.
We will mentor and teach, because we care what happens next.”
Thank you, Anna for your thoughtful reflections as we close out WOAW!
🚁We want to thank all the incredible women we’ve featured this past week for sharing their stories, leadership, and passion that continue to shape the future of aviation.🚁

🚁Today, we`re happy to share Gen`s unique story in celebration of Women of Aviation Week! 🚁
"A former Olympian alpine ski racer turned helicopter pilot, I grew up driving all sorts of things with an engine. The handling part of flying and hands on the controls is cool to me.
In 2004, I had a ski camp in BC with the Canadian ski team. I was on a glacier and they would fly us up early in the morning for our training session. That’s where I got my first taste of flying and how cool it seemed.
I went to flight school in 2010 at 29 years old after I retired from ski racing. I love the outdoors, travelling and mountain biking.
Learning precision flying (drill moves) was challenging. My first drill job was in the Arctic on Baffin Island. Dealing with strong winds and little reference was tough. I persevered. Asked a lot of questions. Watched and learned from the experienced pilots around me.
I see a lot of parallels from my professional athlete’s life and flying. The focus required to accomplish a tough task. Traveling on a team develops your people’s skills (learning to deal and cope and adjust with different personalities), just how you come across with all sorts of people in this job. 🙃
The mental aspect of being an athlete very much applies to moving drills.
The self-talk is key. Good decision making and great communication with ground crew."
We`re grateful to Gen for sharing her journey with us!

✨Women of Aviation Week✨
Meet Abbey, one of the many passionate individuals behind our operation who help keep the company moving forward safely every day.
"I have been a part of the Custom Heli team for a little over two years now. What started as an exciting opportunity in aviation has evolved into a career that I’m very proud of. Each day brings new challenges that push me to think strategically, communicate clearly, and support both our crews and clients.
Over the past couple years, I’ve gained an even deeper appreciation for the fast-paced and ever-changing industry this is. It’s taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of strong teamwork. At Custom Helicopters, collaboration truly drives everything we do and being part of a team that values dedication and family culture makes the journey that much more enjoyable.
If you’re considering a career in aviation, I can confidently say it’s a path full of opportunity, growth, and community."
Thankful to Abbey for sharing and inspiring others during Women of Aviation Week!

🚁As WOAW continues, next up is one of our Aircraft Maintenance Engineers to share her story✨
"My name is Karie and I`ve been a Licensed AME Since 2022. Throughout my time in Aviation so far, I have enjoyed an abundant amount of adventure throughout. As a touring AME in the Helicopter sector, I have seen many areas of Canada which many will never see or experience.
From observing the ways of life and local cultures of the peoples that inhabit the Arctic and the Northern areas of this country. To operations in many other different remote locations across Canada. I am grateful for choosing such a diverse industry with so many different opportunities to experience my career.
As one of the approximately 2.6% of women in this industry, I am honored to bring awareness to other women that this sort of life is an option and we can absolutely hold an equal position in this field and in this world.
I have been met with many challenges over the years as a woman in aviation. There are still some who do not see women as equal or believe that we are intelligent or capable enough to be out here facing down the same challenges as them. Then there are the many others who do stand by our side and work with us as any other co-worker or employee. I would say looking back on the year, my favorite challenge is when I was faced with not having the correct size socket to perform a maintenance task in the remote location of Pond Inlet Nunavut. After searching literally every store in the town I was not able to find one for sale as a single or in a kit. So, I walked up to one of the local heavy duty mechanic shops that I had spied as I walked around the town searching and asked to borrow one. I was in luck as they did have one and they lent it to me without hesitation and with complete faith that I would bring it back to them. Not asking how to get a hold of me or for collateral of any kind. That level of trust and kindness among strangers was so refreshing to experience. It lifted my spirits to have experienced it firsthand. Achieving my maintenance task without having to sit and wait a week or more for a socket was a relief as well!"
We appreciate you sharing your story Karie!
